I've tried to evolve my Rainbow Phoenix to Elder according to http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Elder#Evolution ... 3 times actually. Never managed to do it. Last time I just went for minos with a tank, bonder and healer, had mobs focused on tank and let pet attack them, getting almost no damage and dealing damage to them - and it did not evolve even to aggressive at lvl 12. Is it bugged or am I doing smth wrong ?

->MercenaryKnight: I know that. But I do have a lvl16 Rainbow Phoenix now - unevolved (neither aggressive, nor anything else). It happens for the third time. I DID change its name several times, zone out and in. And nothing.

Pets do not always evolve right at the first level possible. Like the guide says 11-14= possible levels to evolve to aggressive then 15+ for the final evolution.

If you have factions I remember it saying there was an area in the luxon place where you go right outside and ally npcs are killing enemies, just bring a bonder for your pet and let it leech exp off of what the npcs kill.

Not sure then, but I thought a while back I remember their being a bug with phoenixes not being able to evolve or something? Perhaps the bug has come back.

It's not a bug. Sometimes a pet does not evolve, but that means it has the stats of an Elder. Now regarding the training, one thing I see people neglect when trying to raise their pet toward aggressive is: Your pet should do more damage relative to what his owner does. That means YOU need to be doing little to no damage, while your pet is kicking butt.

That was exactly what I was doing - I was using my beastmaster build and kept my character away from fight (dealing almost no dmg), while the mobs were attacking the tank and my pet was doing some dmg.

You could try (never did it myself) attacking dummies with your pet. Then it deals a lot of dmg, get no dmg yourself. Then after just lvl it, and as it did so many dmg it will turn aggressive. Never tried this myself, but when I was in a party, someone had a aggressive pet and I asked him how he got it, and told me by attacking dummies. You could give it a shot
